World Class Athlete Freddie Strawson Visits Marjorie House

Last Friday the 13th proved to be a very lucky day at Marjorie House, as we were delighted to welcome Freddie Strawson, British Champion in wingfoil racing and currently ranked 8th in the world, to spend time with our residents.

Almost a full room gathered in anticipation, eager to hear about this thrilling and fast growing sport. From the very beginning, Freddie captivated everyone with his stories, achievements and clear passion for life on the water.

Chasing World Titles and Ocean Records

Freddie is recognised as one of the rising stars in international wingfoil racing. He is currently chasing World Championship titles while also preparing for an extraordinary challenge in 2026. His ambition is to complete a 600 kilometre wingfoil crossing from the UK to Denmark, a multi day North Sea journey that will push human endurance to its limits.

Residents were fascinated to learn about the physical and mental preparation required for such an event. The idea of travelling across open sea powered only by wind and determination sparked many thoughtful questions and conversations.

Strength, Skill and Innovation

Standing at two metres tall and weighing 98 kilograms, Freddie is known as one of the most powerful riders on the world circuit. However, it is not only his strength that sets him apart.

With a background in mechanical engineering, Freddie designs and refines high performance foil equipment capable of handling extreme conditions. He spoke about how innovation and sport go hand in hand, and how small technical improvements can make a significant difference at elite level.

Residents enjoyed hearing how he combines athletic performance with technical expertise, storytelling and exploration. His journey shows that determination, curiosity and courage can open up remarkable opportunities.

An Inspiring Afternoon

Beyond racing, Freddie has built a reputation as an ocean endurance specialist, completing long distance crossings and sharing his experiences to inspire others. His visit to Marjorie House offered residents a wonderful glimpse into a world of adventure, resilience and ambition.

There was a real sense of admiration in the room as residents listened, asked questions and reflected on the importance of setting goals at any stage of life.

Friday the 13th may carry superstitions for some, but at Marjorie House it brought inspiration, excitement and a memorable afternoon for everyone who attended.
