Maggie joined Care South in 2017. Maggie is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) and has extensive HR Executive and Management experience gained in a variety of sectors including defence, energy services, blue chip, retail and more latterly property management (residential & retirement) and child care services.
Chief Executive Simon Bird joined Care South in 2011 as Property and Marketing Director before being promoted to Deputy Chief Executive in 2017, followed by Chief Executive in November 2018. Simon is a Chartered Surveyor and prior to joining Care South was a Director of a Healthcare Consultancy with Pinders for 15 years. Simon has been instrumental in developing Care South’s portfolio of residential and nursing homes, assisted living developments and home care services across the South of England. Finance Director / Deputy Chief Executive Simon joined Care South as Finance Director in 2016 before being promoted to Deputy Chief Executive in 2019. Simon is a Chartered Accountant and prior to joining Care South held a number of UK and International Directorships in global manufacturing organisations, where he had developed his career over the previous 20 years. Simon brings a wealth of commercial and financial experience to Care South and has enjoyed the the move into a not-for-profit Charity, where sound financial performance is a key enabler for investing in sustainable, compassionate and high quality care services. Director of Residential Care Phil joined Care South in March 2023 as Director of Residential Care with over 18 years’ experience in the care sector. Following an earlier career in the retail sector Phil sought out a career where he could make a difference to people’s lives and has since, always followed a simple principle ‘any decision made, the residents and teams must benefit’. Phil gained valuable, in-depth experience working with three other large providers and is a dedicated and experienced leader in care services. Director of Care at Home Martin joined Care South in February 2020 as Care South at Home director. Prior to joining Care South, Martin worked as Partnerships & Projects Director at Agincare and worked at Somerset Care, another not-for-profit care provider. Martin is a driven and innovative Director with an outstanding track record of leading large, multi-site adult services through transformation to qualitative and financial success. Director of HR and Training Property Director Nick joined in 2019 as Property Director and is responsible for Care South’s property portfolio. Nick is a Chartered Surveyor and has worked for several housing associations across Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset in varied property-related roles. His most recent role was as an Associate Director for a private property management company. Nick is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and a member of the Institute of Residential Property Managers. Board Secretary Penny is an Associate Member of the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland, having qualified in 1991 while working for PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP. Since joining Care South in 1993 the organisation has grown significantly and Penny now provides support to the Board of Directors.
