Care Options
Empowering choice and independence through tailored care
Find the care that’s right for you
If this is your first time organising care then you may be confused by the variety of options available. Everyone’s support needs are different so choosing the most appropriate care for yourself or a loved one can be challenging. That’s why we’ve listed our main care options below with an explanation about what it entails and who benefits from this type of assistance. We have care homes based across Dorset, Devon and Somerset providing care to suit a range of needs.
Have a read through our options and if you would like some additional help making care decisions, then our care team is also available to answer any questions you may have.
Residential care
If you’re looking for a place to call home, with top-up care available when you need it, then residential care could be right for you. Our thoughtfully designed care homes are lively communities where residents socialise, continue with their hobbies and enjoy delicious home-cooked meals. Residential care means individuals can spend quality time with their family and friends, with the peace of mind that we will take care of everything else.
Respite care
Respite care is available if you or a loved one is recovering from an illness or a stay in hospital, or perhaps you just need a well-deserved break from caring. Our compassionate team can offer attentive support and tailored care during a short-term stay in one of our welcoming care homes.
Dementia care
Specialist dementia care, provided by an expertly trained team, ensures that as dementia progresses individuals can continue to live with dignity and respect. If your loved one’s symptoms are increasing and they are struggling to live independently, then they may require dementia care. With a deep understanding of what your loved one is going through, our experienced carers provide tailored, empathetic support to help them lead a meaningful life.
Care at home
Most people want to live in the home they love for as long as possible, and with the right support, they can. Receiving care at home for help with personal care, daily tasks, running errands or just for companionship, means individuals can continue to enjoy an independent life in the comfort of their own home. Whether it’s occasional help or more regular support, our experienced carers provide compassionate care that fits into your lifestyle.
Nursing care
Our expert nursing team can provide round-the-clock medical care for any resident with complex health conditions. Our nursing plans are person-centred, incorporating individual preferences and we empower residents so they have greater choice and independence.

On Monday 21 September, from 2pm to 4pm, our homes in Bournemouth, Poole, Ferndown, Ringwood, Gillingham, Dorchester and Weymouth will be hosting free, informal dementia awareness drop-in sessions.
Visitors can enjoy tea and cake, speak to our teams, ask questions about dementia and find out more about the support available.
This year’s World Alzheimer’s Month theme is:
‘𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗼: 𝗔 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀"
According to Alzheimer’s Research UK, around 40% of people aged 65 and over who are thought to be living with dementia do not have a diagnosis. Starting conversations, recognising possible early signs and seeking support sooner can make an important difference.
Dementia care is a major focus across Care South. Our homes support residents through initiatives including Namaste Care, Dining for Dementia, Dementia Champions and the Virtual Dementia Tour, alongside our award-winning Dementia Care Coach training programme.
There is no need to book. Simply visit your local participating Care South home between 2pm and 4pm on Monday 21 September.

🫏💙 Care South’s Community Fund has donated £1,000 to the Donkey Centre at Highford in Clovelly.
The centre, run by Sue and Bart Kelly, has been caring for working donkeys since 1981 and regularly brings the donkeys to visit residents at Kenwith Castle.
These visits are always a highlight, bringing plenty of smiles, conversation and fond memories for residents, including Sharon, who has happy memories of owning donkeys herself.
The £1,000 donation will help support the ongoing care and wellbeing of the donkeys, while also helping the centre continue bringing these special experiences into the home.
Bart Kelly said: “We love bringing them to Kenwith Castle and seeing the residents’ faces light up when they arrive. It is wonderful to know that Care South is supporting our work and the joy our donkeys bring to people.”
The donation was presented by Jo Kitto, Deputy Manager, and Lydia Russell, Activities Assistant at Kenwith Castle. ❤️
Care South’s Community Fund supports local groups, charities and organisations that make a positive difference to our residents, care at home clients and colleagues.

🎨🎪 What an afternoon for Bryan and Peter from Talbot View!
The pair had a fantastic time visiting the Bourne Valley Arts by the Sea Festival, where they were welcomed with plenty of smiles, chats and coffee before getting stuck into all the fun.
They tried their hand at circus skills including spinning plates and hula-hooping, explored interactive games and enjoyed the brilliant Squidge and Pop bubble show. 🫧
For Bryan, the highlight came when he took to the Open Mic stage to sing ‘Daisy Daisy’ with Dylan on guitar. Before long, the whole crowd was singing along! He then showed off his harmonica skills and received a huge cheer. 🎶👏
Peter also enjoyed trying a little bit of everything, from music-making activities to guessing how much sugar was in different drinks.
It was wonderful to see them both getting involved, trying something new and enjoying such a warm welcome from the local community.
They returned home to Talbot View with smiles from ear to ear and just in time for a well-earned roast dinner! ❤️
