Alexandra House residents enjoy spectacular Poole Military Tattoo

Residents from Care South’s Alexandra House in Poole enjoyed a memorable day out at the very first Poole Military Tattoo, held at Poole Stadium.

Two residents, one accompanied by his wife, joined an Activities Assistant from Alexandra House for the special event on Saturday 12 September, which brought together music, ceremony, military tradition and a moving celebration of those who have served.

A special salute to the services

The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Poole and featured an impressive programme of performances throughout the day.

Residents were able to enjoy marching bands, an Army Cadets Field Gun Team, the Military Wives Choir, Royal Air Force Air Cadets and the Tartan Thistle Dancers.

One of the highlights was a flypast by an RAF Spitfire, creating a particularly memorable moment for everyone watching from the stadium.

The event also featured a spectacular Drum Fest, bringing together the sound and energy of a number of Pipe and Drum Bands.

Pipe and Drum Bands prove a firm favourite

For the Alexandra House residents, the Pipe and Drum Bands were the standout part of the day.

The powerful sound of the pipes and drums created an emotional atmosphere inside the stadium, with the rhythm and spectacle making a lasting impression on the group.

Both residents agreed that the bands were their favourite part of the event, describing the experience as incredibly moving.

Special memories for former RAF Radio Controller Chrissie

The event was particularly meaningful for Alexandra House resident Chrissie, who previously served as an RAF Radio Controller.

Being surrounded by the sights and sounds of the military brought back many memories from her time in the service.

Chrissie said: “It was amazing. It made me feel like I wanted to go back into the RAF.”

Her reaction made the day even more special for the Alexandra House team, highlighting how outings connected to residents’ own experiences and interests can help bring treasured memories to the surface.

Remembering, honouring and celebrating

The Poole Military Tattoo offered a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together with the wider community to remember, honour and celebrate the Armed Forces and those who have served.
