Care South’s Community Fund donates £2,000 to The Friends of Dolphin
Residential and care at home provider and registered charity, Care South, has donated £2,000 to The Friends of Dolphin.
The cause, which operates from Poole Quay, provides free, fully-accessible boat trips around Poole Harbour to elderly Dorset residents and disabled people of all ages. Residents from many of Care South’s Dorset-based care homes have enjoyed trips out with The Friends of Dolphin. The charity’s specially-designed, full-accessible boat is crewed entirely by volunteers, with an experienced skipper at the helm.
It is the latest beneficiary of Care South’s Community Fund, operated by the not-for-profit care provider, which gives back to community groups, services and organisations which directly benefit Care South’s care home residents, care at home clients, or staff.
Carol Cox, Chair of Fundraising for The Friends of Dolphin, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Care South for this generous donation, which will help us continue providing free boat trips for people who may otherwise struggle to get out on the water. We love helping people to see Poole Harbour from a different perspective, while hearing, seeing and feeling the sea breeze. We are delighted to be able to welcome Care South’s residents on board and look forward to providing many more trips in the future.”
Care South’s Community Fund donation was presented to Norman Hollamby, a trustee for The Friends of Dolphin, by Simon Bird – CEO of Care South, and Charlotte Mitchell – Resident Activities and Lifestyle Lead, with assistance from residents and the team at Castle Dene. The care home residents and team then enjoyed a trip out on the water.
Tony, who lives at Castle Dene, said: “I enjoyed it very much. It was nice to be out on the water.”
Lawrence, who also lives at Castle Dene, said: “I enjoyed seeing the islands based around Poole Harbour. I’m already looking forward to going out on the boat again.”
Simon Bird, CEO of Care South, said: “The Friends of Dolphin provide a wonderful opportunity for people to experience Poole Harbour in a way that is accessible to them. We are delighted that our Community Fund can support the charity’s work and help ensure these trips continue to be available to those who can benefit from them. It is a great example of how working with local organisations can make a positive difference to the lives of our residents and the wider community.”
