Castle Dene residents create forget-me-nots for World Alzheimer’s Month

Residents at Care South’s Castle Dene in Bournemouth have been getting creative with a thoughtful art activity to mark World Alzheimer’s Month.

The group spent time painting their own forget-me-nots, creating a colourful display that has now been placed in the porch of the home for residents, relatives and visitors to see.

A meaningful symbol

Forget-me-nots are widely associated with dementia awareness, making them a fitting choice for the activity.

Residents enjoyed painting the delicate blue flowers and adding the finishing touches using cotton buds to dot on the yellow centres.

The simple technique made the activity accessible and enjoyable, while also giving everyone the chance to create something meaningful together.

Thinking of people affected by Alzheimer’s

Once completed, the artwork was displayed in the entrance porch at Castle Dene as a visible reminder that the home is thinking of people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, as well as their families and loved ones.

The activity also created an opportunity for residents to spend time together, chat and enjoy a calming, creative session.
