Mayor of Poole’s dog helps to judge fun competition at care home
The Mayor of Poole and her dog visited a care home to help residents judge a fun community dog show.
Cllr Tracey Newman joined residents at Elizabeth House care home, on Dolbery Road South, to judge dogs of all shapes and sizes, with help from her own dog, Bambi. All visiting dogs joined in the fun by performing tricks and enjoying cuddles with the four-legged friends at the home, which is run by not-for-profit charity, Care South.
The Mayor of Poole said: “It was lovely to see that the residents are so happy and well cared for, and the staff also seemed to be enjoying themselves. It looked like they were all one big family, and it felt more like a home than a care home. The dog show was a wonderful event and my dog, Bambi, particularly enjoyed it, as he also got to take home some treats.”
The residents chose the competition categories, which included ‘Waggiest Tail’, ‘Best Trick’ and ‘Fluffiest Tummy’. Each winning dog received a medal and a gift bag filled with dog toys and treats, while their owners were presented with a novelty trophy.
Donna Moss, Home Manager at Elizabeth House, said: “It was our pleasure to welcome the Mayor of Poole and her little dog, Bambi, to the home to help our residents judge our community dog show. The residents loved choosing the categories and seeing which dogs took home a prize on the day, and we are so pleased that the Mayor wanted to join in with the whole experience. Many of our residents have always been animal lovers, so the dog show was a lovely opportunity for them to spend time with the dogs and enjoy their company.”
